(*)The species Chungungo or Chinchimen (pre-Columbian voices), deals of a small and timid otter of the family of the mustelidae, which scientific name is "Lontra felina (Molina) 1782". It is a fragile species in imminent danger of extinction. Being a species of difficult observation, to date, some scientific studies exist (Castile and Bahamondes, Hair, Medina, Bartheld, Villegas, Olavaria and others), that have allowed to illustrate us better about their population, territorial location, familiar behaviors, nutritional habits, mating conducts and other information for a suitable treatment of the mammal. Today the Chungungo is populating with great difficulty the territories of the south of Peru and all the Chilean coast. Even though it does not have natural predators, it has the man as its only and greater threat , who has hunted it per decades because of its wonderful skin. |
